Biography of Pastor O.C Jones, Sr.
He was born the seventh of fifteen children to Roosevelt and Amy Jones in Madison County, Mississippi. In 1946, they moved to Chicago Heights, Illinois. He retired in 1980 after serving twenty years of active duty in the US Army. On September 2, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, he married the former Lougusta Wordlaw. From his marriage they had three children: O.C Jr, Pamela and Rashann. He and Lou presently reside in Vine Grove, Kentucky and are the proud grandparents of ten grandchildren: Erica, Ocee III, Christopher, Kelvin, Kevon, Gilbert V., Bryson, Cameron, Kenyon and Kamray.
O.C rededicated his life to Christ in July 1975 at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Radcliff, Kentucky. From August to December he was being considered for the Deacon Ministry. In December of that same year, he answered the call of God to preach the gospel and was licensed by the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Following the acceptance of his call, he went on to pastor Zion Baptist Church in Mannheim, West Germany (Mannheim Military Community) from August 1977 to December 1979.
Upon returning from West Germany, he served from December 1979 to September 1980 as an Associate Minister to the Morning Start Missionary Baptist in Radcliff, Kentucky. Shortly afterwards, he moved to Markham, Illinois where he served faithfully as an assistant to the Rev. Govan Mitchell, Pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In 1984, he returned to Kentucky and being inspired by the Holy Spirit and led by the God's Mighty Hand, on November 2, 1984, God used him to organize the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Radcliff, where he served as senior pastor for 32 years.
Dr. Jones has an Associate in Art Degree from Thornton Community College; a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Chicago State University; a Master of Ministry Degree from Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary; and is continuing his education by being a candidate for his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Bethany. He was awarded the distinction of an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Simmons Bible College.
Above all else, Dr. Jones is thankful for the saving relationship he has by God's amazing grace.
